Mayor Mack Evans and first lady Jan, enjoyed special recognitions during Appreciation Night.

Mayor Mack Evans honored for service

Usually, it's Mack Evans handing out medals and praising those who make Elysian a great place. This year, it was the Evans' turn to receive the appreciation of a community where Mack has provided leadership as Mayor for three terms.

Elysian Area Chamber President, Ron Greenwald, surprised Evans with two awards during the annual Volunteer Appreciation Event held September 18.

"When he told me he was thinking of running for Mayor, I didn't think he'd do it," reflected Greenwald. "But back then, I was hoping he would because I knew he'd make a difference for Elysian. He ran. He won. Three times. And Elysian is better for what Mack and Jan Evans have done for our community."

Greenwald presented the Mayor with a silver clock engraved with the message:

"In recognition of his exemplary service as Mayor of Elysian."

The second award was crafted after the Mayor's Medals Evans gives out each year during the event. Greenwald gave Evans a "Mack Medal" to thank him for the many years he called attention to positive contributions Elysian citizens make to their community. The special evening wrapped up with a standing ovation for Mayor Evans and first lady, Jan.
