For decades, Elysianites have marched to Cedar Hill Cemetery

to honor those who gave to their country.

Memorial Day plans in Elysian

Elysian American Legion Post 311 announces the schedule for Memorial Day, May 26, 2008.

6:30 a.m.    Rolls, coffee, and practice at the Post on Main Street

                   All Legionnaires, Sons of American Legion, Auxiliary, and Veterans are invited

Cemetery visits

7:30 a.m.     Greenland Cemetery

8:00 a.m.     German Lake Cemetery

8:15 a.m.     St. Peter's (Bell) Church

8:30 a.m.     Cannonville Cemetery

9:30 a.m.     Cedar Hill Cemetery

At 9:00 a.m., Elysian residents who wish to participate in the traditional march to Cedar Hill are invited to meet at Post 311 on Main Street. Post 311 invites all children, adults, and organizations to take part.

The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown H.S. Band, under the direction of Reece Bierman, will be featured at Cedar Hill. Special music will be provided by the Joe Williams family.

Rev. Steven R. Hultengren of the Assembly of God Church in Elysian will deliver the address. Commander John Milbrath will give a special reading during the ceremony.

Area veterans remembered this year are Cy Hager, R.R. McMillen, Lowell Renken, and Loren Smith. Auxiliary members, Millie Roemhildt and Dolores Wesley, will be remembered in a graveside service at the Roemhildt gravesite immediately following the main program at Cedar Hill.

Refreshments for all participants will be available at the Post following the march back into town. A potluck lunch is scheduled to take place in the Legion Club Rooms. Please bring a dish to pass and enjoy a Memorial Day get-together in Elysian.
